Final Thoughts on the Season...
I
was adding it up last night and I have played 21 seasons
of baseball in my life and never can I remember having
so much fun. You all know that at the beginning of the
year my arm was in a sling, some of you may have thought
I had lost my confidence after my first debut at Chula
but the pain in my arm had me concerned. I have always
been a pitcher and when faced with the possibility of
not pitching I was a little bummed. It wasn’t
easy for me to watch others pitch. In fact it took more
discipline then ever to know that the right thing to
do was not to pitch. My arm healed and I got stronger
as the season progressed. There were a few battles but
I loved it. But I tell you I would not have battled
that hard for a team like the Ions. Not only are each
and every one of you good ball players but you are good
people with huge hearts. We all improved as the season
went on. I think we all realized we’re not Pro
so although it is difficult to accept mistakes we are
only weekend worriers and all we can do is try our best.
Thank you to all of you for having
so much confidence in me and for all the nice comments.
My Hat really goes off to you Dan-
you did a great job putting this team together as well
as doing an excellent job at the plate, in the field
and in the coaches box. I know it is easy to say now
but let’s try to get a little practice in over
the winter and maybe a trip to Arizona in the spring
to watch the Pads preseason or maybe up to Lake Elsinore
for some AAA action.
Have a great end of the summer and
I really, really look forward to playing with you all
next year.
Thanks Again-Lance
I just wanted to say that I have never
been so proud
of a team in a loss as I was today. It didn't matter
how many runs behind, we were determined to win this
game. Unfortunately, we just ran out of innings. What
a great team effort and I appreciate the fact that I
am a member of this team. I haven't had this much fun
playing ball in a long time. See you in a couple of
weeks (yes Dan, I got the wifey's okay).
Mike
Hey,
I really appreciate you guys letting
me play with you at such short notice at the end of
the season. I was really proud of our "NEVER SAY
DIE" attitude and how we never pointed a finger
and picked each other up. It's been a while since I've
played on a team like that. It brought back a lot of
good old memories for me. Now the bad news. I'm going
to take a break this winter to spend a little more time
at home with my new daughter ( I also want to get in
shape to run the bases, that's brutal). I would really
like to play summer ball next year though. If you guys
really get in a bind and you need someone at the last
minute call me and I will see what I can do (no promises).
Thanks again for letting me play. Especially in the
playoff game (I know about your vote). Good luck.
See ya soon,
MO
Thanks Dan! I had a great time, made
me feel 13 again. I'll see you guys in the Spring. Three
cheers for the rookie coach!

Black Soxs',
You know when I left the field yesterday, I thought
about they way you guys just kept coming back. Since,
I was at First Base when you guys were batting I didn't
get to hear or see the support and intensity (up close)
that you guys were instilling in each other. And then
to see several of you almost go "yard" when
we were down by so many was awesome. It's really a shame
the season has to end now. This team is really a force.
We picked each other up in the field and at the plate.
To echo Danny's previous statements concerning Lance,
"one tough gutsy performance". I was very
proud to see you keep fighting back and standing at
the end of that game. If I would have counted pitches,
like how they baby the big leaguers now, the numbers
would have been out of this world and the pitching coach
and manager would be fired. Take the well deserved rest
and come back strong for next spring.
I will do my best to get this old, but not as old as
Danny's, body through surgery and in shape for next
season.
Good luck in the fall. Send me the schedule - I would
love to come out and keep score.
Jim W.
Dan- I wanted to say you do such
a great job at putting all this together! I love the
web site and all the extra things you put into it. As
for MO- sorry for my late reply- I say let him play.
If someone wants to complain, let them. We know we can
win in this league, if for some reason they took the
title away from us it really doesn’t mean anything-
we will know we one the games and we will still be the
team to beat next year. Also I have heard mention of
a winter league team. For me I wont be playing winter
league. My experience in Winter league is a ¼
of the games get rained out and double headers are scheduled
on cold days with 3 hours less light to make up for
those games. For me I love baseball- but it is a spring/summer
sport. When the games begin in spring is an exciting
time for me and I want to keep it that way. However
I would not be apposed to having practices from time
to time- batting/fielding/throwing.
Looking forward to the game this weekend-
and I definitely won’t be riding horses on Saturday.
Have a great week.
Lance (7/30)
