Black
Sox Recap - Sunday 6/8/03
Simply put, one of our opponents showed
up the play (Rebels), the other didn't (literally).
As bad as we played the first game, I guess a split
isn't too bad... keeping us above .500 (6-5) and in
5th place in the 13-team division.
Highlights:
- Jim Wetzel hit
his team-leading third home run of the season stretching
his lead to three home runs (as he likes to point
out) over the rest of us. Inquiring Minds
Want to Know - is it only coincidence that
Jim's recent power surge (3 home runs in 3 games)
started the week after a big bust of Anabolic
Steroids and Human Growth Hormone
(HGH) at the Otay Mesa Border Checkpoint???
- Ricky Flores made
a number of excellent plays at third.
- Comment of the day was Bob
Ambrose's crack "you're warm now"
after Joey St. Pierre complained of being cold after
fanning wildly at first two pitches before striking
out.
Lowlights
- Pitching,
hitting, fielding. Did I miss anything? Let's
face it, we stunk, but at least it was a total team
effort.
- The Umpires
- OK, it didn't cost us the game, but I personally
had trouble focusing after hearing graphic descriptions
of Rickey Henderson's (alleged) homosexuality. Say
it ain't so, Rickey.
4th of July Tournament:
Several of you have expressed an interest
in the July 4 tournament. Confirmed are: myself, Mike
Gross, Bob Ambrose, and a number of “maybe’s”.
If you are interested in playing, please let me know
ASAP – we will likely be teaming up with the 29A
Pirates to form a team. Cost is $85, with a guaranteed
3 games and possibly fourth game for semifinals and
fifth for a championship.
All-Star Game:
Based on our fifth place position
in the standings, we get to send two players to the
all-star game. Congratulations to Jim Wetzel and Nestor
Rosas, our representatives for 2003. Also congratulations
to alternate Steve Pietruza.
