Black Sox,

Congratulations on a big win over the much-improved Titans. We have now won five of our last six games to improve our record to 7-5.

Highlights

We won the game with good pitching and hitting and some good baseball fundamentals – a couple excellent sacrifice bunts and aggressive base running to capitalize on Rebel mistakes. Individual highlights:

Lance – Pitched 9 strong innings to get the win vs. a good-hitting team. Recorded 10 K’s. Bad luck and a couple errors kept the game close. Lance helped himself with an excellent sac bunt to setup our final run.

Pedro – strong day at the plate: 3 for 5.

Nestor – 2 for 5.

Steve – hit a single, double, and triple. His bid for the cycle was dashed when the left fielder caught his line drive to left a mere 60 feet from the fence.

Dan – 2 for 4.

Mike – 2 for 4. Mike also managed to play six different positions over the course of the game.

Rickey – a special thanks to Rickey for bringing fans (his family) and keeping book on a day he had to take off to recover from a knee injury. I know it killed him to not be on the field, but it was great to have Rickey in the dugout.

Next Week’s Game

Next weeks game is against the SD A’s, another team which has improved since we beat them 8-6 in the second game of the season. Yesterday, the A’s upset the Saturn Ions 10-6 to even their record at 6-6. Game time is 9 am at Mar Vista. This is a team that has come on strong after a bad start. We will need to play well to get a win.

I know Jim M. will likely miss the game. If anyone else will be out please let me know ASAP.

July 4 Tourney

There are still some roster spots for the July 4 Tournament. Cost is $85 for 3 to 5 games. Let me know ASAP if you are interested.

All-Star Game

Based on our fifth place position in the standings, we get to send two players to the all-star game Wednesday 6:30 pm at Poway High. Congratulations to Jim Wetzel and Nestor Rosas, our representatives for 2003. Also congratulations to alternate Steve Pietruza.
