Black Sox Rock A's

Win "Tainted" by All-Star Balloting Questions

In the team's best performance since Easter, the Black Sox cruised to a 9-3 victory over the SD A's.

Highlights

  • Pitching - Chad pitched 4 strong innings and, FINALLY, got a decent defensive performance on his behalf. Lance pitched 5 strong innings in relief, suffering only on a bases loaded error (of his own making). Overall, it was probably our best pitching performance of the season with 6 strikeouts vs. only 2 walks and just one earned run on the afternoon.
  • Hitting - We had 17 hits and only 3 strikeouts. And one of those strikeouts (Steve) was clearly a protest at being slighted for the all-star team for a second straight year. Individual highlights:
    • Nestor reached base 3/5 with two hits (double) and scored twice.
    • Dan 4/4 with a double.
    • Bob reached base 3/4 on 2/3 hitting with a walk.
    • Mo 2/4 (double).
    • Jonathan 2/4*.
    • Lance hit safely in his only at-bat.

Lowlights

  • Are you kidding? It was our second win since Easter. Who's complaining?

Looking Forward

Next week's game is at 2 pm at Eastlake HS. Afterwards, let's BBQ at my house (2 blocks away). Win, lose, or tie, let's celebrate the season after the game. Your families are invited.

All-Star Voting Allegations

Some allegations about all-star "voting irregularities" surfaced after the game. Much like the Dept. of Homeland Security, this ballclub takes all such accusations very seriously.

Final Voting Results:

  • Jim McGaha (6)
  • Dan Darrin (5)
  • Steve Pietruza (3) - Alternate

Granted, I opened the door to speculation with some admittedly "uneven" emails over the weekend. My med.'s are under control now and it won't happen again. In answer to the "Monday Morning Quarterbacks" who allege that no-one voted for me, let me say that two members of the team came forward and told me they had my vote: Jim McGaha and Steve. I don't really know how any of the rest of you voted but all ballots will be made available for public inspection next week. No "hanging chads" in this election...

*Webmaster's Note: If only Jonathan's second "hit" were held to this level of public scrutiny...
