| Five
Straight Losses!
The Bulldogs yesterday
dealt us our fifth straight loss. Who would have
thought that after winning four straight (three
by mercy rule) and scoring 80 runs in the process,
then beating the best team in the division (Rebels),
we would lose five in a row?
What is
happening here? For one thing, we just
can't catch a break. Yesterday, we make a couple
of first inning errors and boom, we are down 5-1.
Last week, the centerfielder makes a diving catch
and throws out our leadoff batter. Then the guy
pitches a no hitter. It's just the way things
are going right now.
Not that we've
been helping ourselves.... we've been inconsistent
in all areas: offense, defense, and pitching.
Highlights
- Hitting: Dan
and Steve went 3/4, each with
doubles. Mike Gray and Chad
Smith each got a couple of hits. Altogether,
we had 13 hits and just 3 strikeouts and put
the ball in play. Give the Bulldogs some credit:
they played good defense (no errors). I heard
one of their guys say after the game that it
was their best defensive game of the season.
Lucky us.
- Pitching: Chad
pitched 6 strong innings and was much better
than the result would indicate. Lance
pitched 2 excellent innings of shutout ball
in relief.
- Defense: After
the disastrous first inning, we played really
good defense. Nestor made some great plays and
Lance and Jon both played excellent first base.
Phil settled down and Mo made a couple of good
plays.
Lowlights
- The aforementioned disastrous
first inning. Even though we played
good defense the rest of the way, it is not
enough to play just 8 good innings.
