| Welcome
to the shocking SDABL team website called "Foul
and Disrespectful" by Larry from the Tigers
who vows to KICK
OUR ASS in the playoffs....
Rebels Undefeated
No "Mo"!
With tremendous
respect for my friend Art Garcia and the Rebels
(as good and classy a team as you will find in
this league), I wrote the headline in advance
of the Tigers game two weeks ago with the premonition
that clean-up hitter Mo Wrighten was ready to
have a "breakout" day. Mo had to work
again and was unable to play a second straight
week as we beat another undefeated opponent.
Because I'm a ballplayer,
and naturally supersticious, I'm reluctant to
change the headline now, as it has worked well
now for two weeks, silly controversy started by
"Larry" from the Tigers notwithstanding.
Oh, and Larry, since I know you are reading and
since this is the Official Black Sox Web
Site and I can (and will) say whatever
I damn well feel like, just one more comment:
we can't wait to see the Tigers in the playoffs...
if you get there.
More to the point,
Black Sox: Nice work, men. This is our first win
ever vs. the Rebels, and it is good to get that
monkey off our backs.
Highlights
- Pitching -
As outstanding as our hitting was, and believe
me, I'll get to that shortly, our pitching was
outstanding one more time. Lance pitched five
(5) excellent innings, allowing just three runs
from the (other) best team in our division.
Lance also had the key hit of the game, a MONSTER
GRAND SLAM to turn a frustrating 0-3
deficit into a 4-3 lead. A lead we never relenquished.
Jonathan was also outstanding for four innings,
allowing 6 runs, all of them unearned, as the
Rebels again showed their uncanny ability to
make us pay for our mistakes.
- Hitting
- For a third straight game, our hitting was
steller. We strung together 19 hits and 11 free
passes (walks + HBP) against one of the best
pitching staffs in the division.
- Individual
Hitting Highlights:
- Mike Gross -
reached base all 5 at-bats with 3 hits,
1 BB, and a HBP. Right now, Mike is hitting
the ball as well as anyone on the team.
- Jonathan -
our "moneyball" player reached
base 4/5 times despite failing to get hit
by a pitch for only the second time this
season. Nice job Jonathan, but please don't
let your chance at Black Sox immortality
slip away from you. You have a "calling"
son, don't blow it.
- Dan -
3/5 and continuing on as the only Black
Sox with no strikeouts for the season.
- Nestor-
2/5 with a double. Nestor retains his lead
as the best Black Sox hitter (based on Batting
Avg and probably slugging % if I was smart
enough to figure it out) for the season
- Jim Wetzel -
reached base 3/5 and gave the team another
great 6 innings behind the plate. Jimmy,
I'll try again: is it too late to pull back
your transfer??? The real "Black Sox"
are all dead... this is the next best thing.
Trust me.
- Bob Ambrose -
continued to hit the ball with authority,
going 2/3 with a double. Also, a second
excellent game at shortstop.
- Rey -
hit 2/4 and reached base 3/5. Nice job Rey.
- Jim McGaha
- reached base 3/5 plate appearances.
- My apologies
if I left anyone out. It was a
TOTAL team. effort and you guys were AWESOME
for a third straight week.
- Defense -
I'd be remiss if I didn't acknowlege Steve's
brilliant face-plant diving catch in right field
in the fourth inning. Along with Lance's grand
salami, it was the key play of the game.
Lowlights
You are kidding right?
If we keep hitting like this, no-one
in this league is going to be able to run with
us. No-one. Larry may not like
it, but it is what it is.
Looking Forward
Next week we play the SD Bombers
1 pm at Dana Center. I'll send out directions
to the field later this week.
