| Welcome
to the shocking SDABL team website called "Foul
and Disrespectful" by Larry from the Tigers
who vows to KICK
OUR ASS in the playoffs....
Tigers Undefeated No
"Mo"!
I wrote the headline
in advance with the premonition that clean-up
hitter Mo Wrighten was ready to have a "breakout"
day. Turns out it didn't matter, because even
in the absence of our power-hitting third baseman,
and all-position standout Mike Gross, the Black
Sox are a force to be reckoned with as we dealt
the previously unbeaten (now 3-1) Tigers a 20-7
(mercy rule) shellacking. Nice work, men.
Highlights
- Pitching -
As outstanding as our hitting was, and believe
me, I'll get to that shortly, our pitching was
superior to the opponent's, and that's an understatement.
Lance pitched five (5) excellent innings against
a team that was (previously) averaging a whopping
17-runs a game, to get the win. Lance
gave up 6 runs, but a lot of that falls on the
defense who could have easily held that total
to maybe 2 or 3 runs. Jonathan
and Phil pitched strongly in
relief, with Phil striking out the "noisiest"
Tiger to end the game in mopup time.
- Hitting
- Our hitting was outstanding for the second
straight game. We strung together 18 hits in
just 6 at-bats, thanks to a second straight
mercy rule win. Guys, do you realize we have
now scored 42 runs in our last 12-innings???
I just wish I could bottle up the way we are
hitting right now and dole it out when we need
it. Where were we the first two games??? It
don't matter, the real Black Sox are back.
- Individual
Hitting Highlights:
- Jim McGaha -
4/4 with a double including two CLUTCH 2-out
RBI hits when the game was still close.
I'm pretty sure Jim could have gone 10/10
if he had had the at-bats... he was that
dialed in.
- Nestor Rosas
- 3/5 with his first (of many,
I'm sure) Home Runs for the Black Sox and
flawless defense (as usual) at second base.
- Dan Darrin -
3/5 and still the only Black Sox with no
strikeouts for the season. And I do intend
to maintain this streak.
- Steve Pietrusza
- 2/5 with an "in-the-park
HR", the first I can remember for the
team and not bad for a "flat-footed"
right fielder. Copernicas, Lech, and the
entire motherland is proud of you, Steve.
- Jim Wetzel -
3/3, on-base 5/5 with an excellent game
behind the plate. Jimmy, is it too late
to pull back your transfer??? The real "Black
Sox" are all dead... this is the next
best thing. Trust me.
- Bob Ambrose -
on-base 3/5, and robbed of extra bases on
a bomb by the left fielder on a great play
into the bullpen in deep left field. Bob
was also SOLID in his first full game at
shortstop.
- My apologies
if I left anyone out. It was a
TOTAL team effort and you guys were AWESOME
for a second straight week.
Lowlights
You are kidding right?
If we keep hitting like this, no-one
in this league is going to be able to run with
us. No-one.
Looking Forward
Next week we will have another
tough test vs. the Rebels 1 pm at Mar Vista
HS. The Rebels are 2-0 this season and, for
those of you who weren't with us last season,
the team that beat us in the league semifinals
last season. They are a good, well-managed club.
We will see better pitching than we've seen
the last two weeks.
Come ready to play again.
We'll be OK.
